As we approach tax return season, here are some unusual expense claims HMRC have rejected in previous years:

A 3 piece suite for a wife to sit on while her partner was completing the accounts

Vet fees for a rabbit

£4.50 sausage and chips meal for 250 days

A carpenter claiming £900 for 55 inch tv and soundbar to help him price his jobs

£40 on woolly underwear for 5 years

Pet dog insurance

Strange ones I have seen, but rejected before they got to HMRC are:

£500 for Ann Summers  – some uniforms are allowed, but not in this case!

Oil for a van, but the receipt was from a pub.
